Project 2

Module 2

My team memner Xinyi and I planed to create a large flower equipped with multiple sensors, featuring three distinct interaction methods: touch, breath, and motion. I am responsible for the Arduino code portion.

Workshop 1 Geurilla Prototyping I

Mark out the corresponding fold lines on the cardboard. Mobile Phone Stand Exploded View Fold at the corresponding position Testing the Cellphone stand, found out the angles need to be adjusted. By adding extra support at the front, the stand is more stable.

Workshop 2 Geurilla Prototyping II

Groupmember are cutting the petal shape out of cardboard. glue the petal and determine the size of the flower to hide the components inside. The pistil will be placed a temperature or humidity sensor according to the test results. the copper tape used for touch sensor. attached the motion sensor beneath the flower receptacle

Activity 1: My Resarch

My first research on the sensor is Ultrasonic sensor, it gave me some ideas about motion detection. Another research on the Ultrasonic sensor, I fount out it also can be used to measure distance by using LED lights. The video contains both testing and coding of Ultrasonic sensor. Since I did not get the flower prototype done, I tested the Ultrasonic sensor on the Arduino breadboard. However, the old ultrasonic sensor kept giving me wrong reading, which made me frustrated in testing. The testing I did with temperature sensor, it appears wried readings on the serial monitor.

Activity 2: My Rearch

I disassembled the power supply of the fiber optic lamp and attempted to connect it to the Arduino. However, I currently lack a mainboard to prevent overvoltage, so I plan to test it on Project 3 instead. The temperature sensor testing result is 'nan C', which is not a valid reading. I changed to humidity sensor for further testing. The humidity sensor worked perfectly in testing the LED light. After discussion, we decided to use humidity instead. The LED on Arduino works fine, but I have not tested with the fiber optic lamp yet. It might have different challenges when connected to the lamp. The ultrasonic sensor occasionally provides inaccurate readings. I will attempt to resolve this issue in further testing.

Additional Research or Workshops

I wrote a brief Arduino-to-TouchDesigner code, but since the TouchDesigner animation isn't finished yet, I could only test whether Arduino could connect. Whether the animation plays remains unknown.
